Mother Teresa: A Life of Service and Sacrifice Essay for School Student

Mother Teresa: Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu was the real name of Mother Teresa. She was born in Yugoslavia on 27th August 1910. At the age of 18, she came to India to teach in Loreto convents in Kolkata.

Mother Teresa started missionaries of charity in 1950. She believed that lack of love and charity was the biggest problem which has led to the poor conditions of people. She started her mission of caring and serving poorly. She became a great social worker.

Essay Mother Teresa: Her Legacy Lives On

She started serving the poor people by giving clothes and food to them. Soon, many homes for the poor like ‘Nirmal Shishu Bhawan, Nirmal Hriday’ and many other schools and hospitals were opened all over the country and abroad. These number of these homes have now reached to 755 which runs in 125 countries. These missionary homes provide selfless help to the poor, teaching the slums, tending to the terminally sick and for the mentally sick. She opened schools, dispensaries, and a special clinic for the TB patients.

Mother Teresa persuaded the citizens of Kolkata that leprosy was not contagious. In fact, she helped the leprosy patients to build a colony of their own in Kolkata. She also rescued many children who were dumped by their parents due to poverty. She was a mother to them. She was a real saint. The holy work she did can never be forgotten. She worked selflessly for others till she died

Mother Teresa: An Inspiration to School Children

In 1997, at the age of 87 years, due to poor health, she stepped down from the head of the order. The next head of the organization is sister Nirmala. For her selfless services, she was awarded many prizes in India and many other countries. Padmashri, Nehru Award, and Nobel Prize are few them. Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Prize in the year 1979.

She passed away in 1997. Though she is no more, she has left a message behind: ‘faith and compassion can heal the world’. Her funeral took place with full state honors.

She was an angel to many. Though her loss cannot be fulfilled her followers all over the world are carrying out the work with all love, care, and affection.
